As many as 129 medical workers from several health facilities in Bengkulu province have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a local health official said.

“As per the latest developments, the number of medical workers exposed to COVID-19 has reached 129. They are employed in all districts and the city in Bengkulu," head of the Bengkulu Provincial Health Office, Herwan Antoni, said here on Saturday.

Most of the medical workers are in good health as they have shown no clinical symptoms, he added.

He confirmed four medical workers in the province have died of coronavirus. "It is true four medical workers died after being exposed to COVID-19 while performing their duties. We hope there will be no more victims in the future," Antoni said.

To date, the province has enlisted 7,784 medical workers — doctors, nurses, midwives, and health analysts — for serving COVID-19 patients, he informed.

“They are employed at 123 health facilities comprising eight referral hospitals, six auxiliary hospitals, and 110 public health service posts in 10 districts and city (in the province),” he said.
